In September, Life Hospitals added significant extensions to Kingsbury Hospital (Wilderness Road, Claremont). The upgrade includes the addition of a new 24-hour Accident and Emergency Unit, a paediatric ward, and additional parking. The ground floor, operating theatres and wards have been overhauled, giving the hospital a modern ambience. With the increasing number of local residents and the need for quality healthcare, the hospital refurbishment means medical staff are equipped to deal with everything from chronic health conditions to trauma and exercise-related injuries. In line with the trend in environmentally friendly building design, the renovation has incorporated features such as heat pumps to provide hot water at a fractional cost; and pumps which deliver cold air into areas that require continuous cooling. New LED lighting is projected to reduce energy usage to a fifth of the original, while recycled water will be used for garden irrigation.
